How it works ?

Open Link Cable software emulates the OSS interfaces that are used by DOCSIS cable modems (ICM) and cable modem termination systems (CMTS). Open Link Cable virtualizes components that automate provisioning and management – including:

  • Virtual Cable Modem (vCM): Emulates the OSS interface for configuration (DHCP, TFTP, TOD) and management (SNMP, SysLog) of the Calix optical network units (ONU).
  • Virtual Cable Modem Termination System (vCMTS): Emulates the OSS interface for management (SNMP, Syslog) for the Calix E7 OLT.
  • Virtual embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (veMTA): Emulates the OSS interface for configuration (DHCP, TFTP, TOD) of Packet Cable 1.0 (MGCP) and 2.0 (SIP) services.

Open Link Cable interfaces with your DOCSIS OSS and serves as a proxy to translate commands between back office systems and the optical line terminal (OLT) – a Calix E7-2 or E7-20, which replaces the CMTS at the head-end or cabinet. In each subscriber’s home a Calix 700GE or 800GE ONU/ONT replaces a cable modem.
